Pain presides as laughter subsides
The expression goes “laughter is the best medicine”.
For the past 8 years, ImprovBoston has helped me cure ailments I thought would never end and heal wounds I thought would never close. But due to the pandemic sickening our society, ImprovBoston lost its space and its smile. Countless writers, actors, staff, audiences, and community members have had their favorite prescription run out for the first time in 30 years. Alternative medicine like Zoom shows, video sketches, and Netflix binges have helped, but such remedies can never replicate the same closeness, the same authenticity, the same connection shared from stage to seat.
If laughter is truly the best medicine, ImprovBoston has saved mine and so many other lives. When we find a way to overcome these sullen scenes, I look forward to us coming together to save its life and the lives of generations to come.
